UPDATED: SunPoll Results regarding Costs Per Workstation...
For a number of our customers, LogDev produces a LogDev IT Investment Analysis report showing a breakdown of their support, maintenance and travel costs per system. This is the "Cost of Ownership" - what it takes to keep the gear running, add and remove users, process the software updates, deal with licensing issues, resolve simple to complex software or hardware problems, manage the data, basically keep it all running. This is not capital, nor implementation - this is ownership.
I've taken the consolidated results of the IT Investment reports that I do, and aligned them with the industry poll conducted by Sunbelt regarding annual costs per workstations. Some of you may remember this from last year - it makes for a fascinating comparison.
First, here are the SunPoll figures (directly quoted)...
The recent SunPoll about the cost per workstation was very interesting. A whopping 32% of you spends more than $1,100 per machine.
- $300-$500: 8%
- $500-$700: 18%
- $700-$900: 24%
- $900-$1,100: 17%
- More than $1,100: 32%
Here are our figures in almost the same format (although I needed to add the "sub-$300" section for our services)...

As you can see, fully 84% of our clients spend less than $500 dollars annually ($1.40 per day), per system, on support, maintenance and travel costs. It is rare that we find information allowing us to do a direct comparison of LogDev Services against the industry, but I am quite proud of what these results are showing, and the value we are able to deliver to our clients.
